With the objective to evaluate the effects of rest periods (14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days) on green dry matter (GDM) yield, chemical composition and morphogenetic and structural characteristics of Brachiaria humidicola cv. Llanero, was installed an experiment under greenhouse with natural conditions of light and temperature. GDM yields and regrowth, blade lenght, and leaf lifespan rate increased consistently with rest periods however, the N, P, Mg, and K contents decreased as plant age increased, while calcium contents were not affected by rest periods. Maximum leaf appearance and elongation rate, and blade lenght were obtained with rest periods of at 41.1; 31.3 and 38.9 days, respectively. These data suggest that rest periods at 28 to 35 days were considered optimal for obtain maximum yields and regrowth of rich forage and pasture persistence.
