Objective: To evaluate the quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing renal replacement therapy (hemodialysis). Methods: Quantitative cross-sectional study, carried out in a referral hospital for hemodialysis in the state of Alagoas. Data collection was carried out by applying a socioeconomic and lifestyle questionnaire, and the instrument for assessing quality of life, the WHOQOL-bref. Results: The WHOQOL-bref facets showed almost absolute dissatisfaction with the self-assessment of quality of life and satisfaction with their own health. It was also observed that the instrument's “physical” and “social relations” domains obtained a lower average score in the evaluated aspects. Among the variables analyzed, there was a statistical correlation between family income, time on hemodialysis and quality of life, where patients with lower income and with shorter dialysis time have greater impairment in quality of life. Conclusion: The results obtained indicate dissatisfaction with the “bad” classification of the patients' self-reported general quality of life. In short, limitations, a sense of grandeur, loss of autonomy and independence, stress and anxiety, are some of the factors with the greatest impact on the quality of life generated by the disease and treatment.
