Virtual media and mental health during social distancement imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic

Objective: to discuss the types of information related to COVID-19 that is transmitted in virtual social networks and the possible influences on the mental health of the population. Methodology: This is a reflective study based on an investigation of a documentary nature, on public access sources available in cyberspace about COVID-19, shared on virtual social networks Instagram, Facebook and Twitter searched by the guiding question: How Are news about COVID- 19 share in virtual social networks during social distance and its implications for mental health? Results: Three thematic categories were built: a) Social networks and information transmission speed; b) Information related to COVID-19 in virtual social networks; c) Reflect to develop emotional skills. Conclusion: information in virtual media can affect mental health. Therefore, it is recommended to reflect on what information in virtual media awakens emotionally and to seek self-awareness and self-awareness as a means to expand emotional skills. The people who allow this exercise begin to develop emotional intelligence.
