Check the possible signs and symptoms associated with the eruption of primary teeth in early childhood and ways to minimize discomfort. This is an integrative literature review, with a search in databases. After defining the guiding question, searches were performed in the VHL, SciELO and PUBMED, using the following descriptors: tooth eruption; primary tooth; Signs and symptoms. Only studies that meet the following inclusion criteria were selected: publications from the last ten years, in Portuguese or English, having in the title or abstract the descriptors defined for the searches and with a thematic focus consistent with the study objective in this proposal. search. Course completion papers were excluded. Data collection was carried out through the complete reading of the studies. Nine studies that met the eligibility criteria were selected. The most reported signs and symptoms in the literature were irritability, increased tympanic temperature, excessive salivation, gingival irritation, fever and diarrhea. The most common therapeutic approaches were self-medication, use of teething teeth and anesthetic gels, which are contraindicated due to the risk of serious reactions. Simpler cares are indicated to safely reduce discomfort, such as offering cold foods, gingival massage and use of teethers. The eruption of teeth in early childhood can cause signs and symptoms that can be alleviated through simple methods, and the use of anesthetic gels is contraindicated.
