Conservative surgical treatment of ameloblastoma with initial diagnosis suggestive of odontogenic cyst

Odontogenic cysts and tumors constitute an important chapter in oral pathology, presenting similar imaging characteristics, requiring careful evaluation and histopathological results for the final diagnosis. The objective of this work is to present a case of conservative treatment of ameloblastoma whose initial diagnosis, in the incisional biopsy, was suggestive of dentigerous cyst. The 21-year-old patient was treated at the Maria Aparecida Pedrossian University Hospital of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, initially treated with decompression, followed by enucleation, curettage with peripheral osteotomy and application of Carnoy's solution. In the 17-month postoperative period, the CT scan showed bone neoformation in an enucleated area with no signs suggestive of recurrence. The patient will be followed closely in order to detect any changes early.
