Dentistry is one of the areas that uses histological aspects for scientific studies, diagnosis, etc. In the higher education of this course the learning process is generally carried out associating theory X practice contemplating the basic tissues that form the organs of the human body. This work aims to evaluate, from the perspective of students of the Dentistry course at the Federal University of Pernambuco, whether the histological knowledge acquired in the basic cycle has any applicability in the subsequent disciplines of the said course. The methodology includes a descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative and qualitative study. The research was carried out through a remote questionnaire at the Department of Dentistry of the Federal University of Pernambuco, Campus Recife, with 66 responses, and the participants of the dentistry classes were recruited via email and WhatsApp. The results showed that most students are aged between 18 and 25 years, being male and white. 86.4% only study and are working full-time (97%). When asked about which subjects they could use Histology content in, most responded: Oral Pathology (92.4%) followed by Systems Histology (89.4%), Stomatology (74.2%), Oral Histology and Embryology ( 90.9%) and Oncology (77.3%). In view of the data obtained, it is concluded that the histological knowledge acquired in the basic cycle by dentistry students was effective and has applicability in subsequent and specific disciplines of that course. However, it is necessary to resignify the teaching models at the higher level.
