Educational intervention to prevent the proliferation of leprosy

Objective: Develop an educational intervention on leprosy for Community Health Agents (ACS) with the intention of providing subsidies to ACS and the Basic Health Unit (UBS) Good success aiming at better care and disease control.Methodology: Quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study that was developed through the application of a structured questionnaire with 10 objective questions about the disease, in order to quantify and assess the level of knowledge about the topic under study. Results: A questionnaire with initial questions dealing with basic knowledge about leprosy was applied to 9 ACS, all of them female. Before the lecture, it was found that 88.9% (n=8) had already heard about the disease and thought it was curable and 77.8% (n=7) had already declared previous contact with a leprosy patient. Regarding the main symptoms of the pathology, only 44.4% of the interviewees answered correctly. Conclusion: It was found that the educational intervention had a positive response in relation to the ACS. During the lecture there was interaction, questions related to their assigned area. Thus, continuing education for these professionals is essential to carry out their work properly and, in addition, to transfer their knowledge to the patients who are under their supervision, as these professionals are in daily contact with the population, and they are the link between the community. and the UBS.
