Urban afforestation in Fortaleza-CE – Challenges for Municipal Management

This article aims to analyze the issue of urban afforestation in the Municipality of Fortaleza considering the municipal regulations for its implementation and management, proposing adjustments in order to expand and qualify the municipal afforestation zones. A methodological strategy divided into three stages is adopted: the first consists of a narrative bibliographic review in which the main concepts related to the above theme are analyzed, such as afforestation and municipal zoning. In this step, the legal mechanisms existing in the municipality that deal with urban afforestation are also presented, supported by Complementary Law No. 270, of August 2, 2019. observations and analysis of the real situation. This stage of the research is developed through questionnaires directed to the current residents of the analyzed region and the answers are tabulated for the analysis of the applicability of the current legal mechanisms of the municipality. In the third stage, the results found are analyzed and adjustments are suggested in the management and implementation of arboreal zoning in the city of Fortaleza. It appears that there is a lot to be done in relation to the subject, and that the actions lack a more coordinated and effective action, since there was a considerable interest of the population regarding urban afforestation in the municipality and a low municipal afforestation.
