Abstract

The search for rejuvenation is a prevalent desire in today's society, driven by technological advances in the health area, which has provided the emergence of new techniques to improve aesthetics. The face, where individual characteristics are expressed, is composed of complex layers of tissue, the skin being the largest organ, composed of epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. With aging, there is loss of subcutaneous fat and reduction of dermal collagen, resulting in furrows and facial depressions. To combat these effects, the use of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) has been widely studied, offering benefits for the skin. PRF has tissue regeneration potential, is biocompatible and has an affordable clinical cost. In orofacial harmonization, the purpose of PRF is to restore or regulate the cellular activity responsible for skin remodeling, reversing the effects of dermal aging. Its autologous composition, rich in growth factors and plasma proteins, provides a natural and effective approach. In addition, PRF releases growth factors in a prolonged way, enhancing regenerative effects and accelerated healing. Its application by qualified professionals, using specific techniques, has shown positive results in the reduction of wrinkles, fine lines and general improvement of the skin. PRF has advantages over other approaches such as PRP, including reduced cost and lower risk of immunogenic reactions and disease transmission. Thus, the objective of this article is to carry out a narrative review of the literature on the application of PRF in orofacial harmonization.
