Abstract

The Twin Block and Bionator appliances are functional orthopedic appliances indicated for class II malocclusions.  The most important step in making these devices is recording the bite in wax where the patient must be instructed to bite with the jaw forward. The ideal phase to carry out treatment with these devices is during or shortly after the beginning of the pubertal peak. As a result of the use of these devices, it is possible to clinically observe orthodontic results such as retraction and uprighting of the upper incisors and vestibularization of the lower teeth, improving the overjet and improving the overbite that occurs during their activation, wearing the acrylic occlusally to help level the curve of spe. There was controversy between orthopedic results regarding mandibular growth, and regarding restriction of maxillary growth.
