The main objective of study was to observe the effects of certain anabolic androgenic steroids on sedentary young rats hearts. For this, an experimental study was carried out using Wistar lineage rats (n = 20). The treatment consisted in application of two anabolics steroids, nandrolone decanoate (DN) and a combination of testosterone propionate, testosterone phenpropionate, testosterone isocaproate and testosterone decanoate (TS). The animals were divided into four groups, containing five animals each: GI- control, Group II called the DECA group (DN), Group III, named DURA group (TS) and Group IV called the DURA + DECA group (DN + TS). The treatment lasted thirty days and the doses were made available once a week. After euthanasia, the hearts were removed and submitted to morphometric analysis. Using specific software, the ventricular lumen and the left ventricular muscle wall were measured. Statistical analysis was performed through analysis of variance followed by Tukey's means comparison test. From results obtained, it is concluded that use of these drugs in pre-established dose and treatment period in this experiment did not cause significant cardiac changes. However, it is important to note that these results do not guarantee that the use of these steroids, in doses used, are safe.
