Uso de prácticas integradoras y complementarias en pacientes con COVID-19: Revisión de alcance

Resumen

Objetivo: mapear en la literatura las recomendaciones y consideraciones sobre el uso de las prácticas integradoras y complementarias en pacientes con COVID-19, identificando las perspectivas y las lagunas existentes en esta producción. Método: revisión de alcance realizada en las siguientes bases de datos: National Library of Medicine a través de PubMed®, Current Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, Literatura Latino Americana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud a través de la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud, Biblioteca Virtual en Salud de las Medicinas Tradicionales, Complementarias e Integradoras del Continente Americano, y en el Observatorio Nacional de Saberes y Prácticas Tradicionales, Integradoras y Complementarias, con inclusión de 20 estudios con diferentes enfoques metodológicos que respondieron a la siguiente pregunta: “¿Cuáles son las recomendaciones o consideraciones sobre el uso de las prácticas integradoras y complementarias en pacientes con COVID-19?”. Resultados: los estudios provienen principalmente de China, presentan diseños metodológicos variados y abordan 13 de las 29 prácticas incluidas en la Política Nacional de Prácticas Integradoras y Complementarias. Entre ellas, se destacó la Medicina Tradicional China, con debates sobre fitoterapia. En general, las prácticas tuvieron efecto principalmente en la reducción de los síntomas provocados por el COVID-19 y pueden contribuir en el tratamiento de la enfermedad. Conclusión: aunque no exista una necesidad urgente de realizar más estudios que investiguen el uso de prácticas integradoras y complementarias en pacientes con COVID-19, estas terapias pueden ser útiles en el tratamiento de la enfermedad, en la prevención de problemas de salud y en la recuperación de los pacientes.
