El papel del farmacéutico en la pandemia de COVID-19: Una revisión integradora

Resumen

Objetivo: Analizar la literatura científica sobre el papel del farmacéutico en la pandemia de COVID-19, a través de una revisión integradora de la literatura. Fuente de datos: La búsqueda de artículos científicos se realizó en las siguientes bases de datos: Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS), Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS), Biblioteca Electrónica Científica en Línea (SciELO) y PubMed en el período de 2019 a 2020. Los criterios de inclusión establecidos fueron publicaciones en inglés con el descriptor “Coronavirus, COVID-19, Farmacia, Farmacia Comunitaria, Servicios de Farmacia, Atención Farmacéutica, Farmacia Hospitalaria” en el título, resumen o palabras clave en los artículos disponibles online y completos. Se excluyeron las cartas al editor y los artículos duplicados. Resumen de los hallazgos: Se identificaron 10.906 artículos, de los cuales 28 cumplieron con los criterios de selección. Los resultados se demostraron con énfasis en las funciones adicionales que desempeñan los farmacéuticos tanto en la farmacia comunitaria como en la farmacia hospitalaria, determinadas por la situación pandémica. A nivel hospitalario se verificó el apoyo a la toma de decisiones clínicas sobre farmacoterapia, gestión logística de medicamentos, mayor seguridad en la dispensación de medicamentos y farmacovigilancia. En el entorno de la farmacia comunitaria, se hizo hincapié en la atención farmacéutica directamente al usuario a través de la orientación sobre medidas de higiene que buscan minimizar o prevenir la propagación del virus y la contaminación de las personas. Mantener la dispensación de medicamentos para usuarios agudos y crónicos, garantizando el suministro y disponibilidad de medicamentos de calidad, fue la actividad principal, así como las pruebas rápidas para el diagnóstico de COVID-19.
