Sustancias bioactivas de los alimentos y sus acciones anti-envejecimiento en la piel: una revisión narrativa de la literatura

La piel es el órgano más grande del cuerpo humano y su estado refleja fielmente el estado de salud en el que se encuentra el complejo organismo humano. Además, la piel está expuesta diariamente a daños ambientales que pueden provocar envejecimiento prematuro, hiperpigmentación, deshidratación e incluso enfermedades de la piel como el cáncer. Junto al aumento de la esperanza de vida, se han buscado cada vez más alternativas que permitan el mantenimiento de la salud de la piel, con el fin de protegerla frente a los daños ambientales nocivos o síntomas de degeneración celular, con la consiguiente hiperpigmentación, fotoenvejecimiento e incluso cáncer de piel. Ante ello, las ciencias de la nutrición junto a la medicina estética se hacen presentes juntas, ya que la piel se muestra como un sensible indicador de carencias nutricionales. Por ello, para mantener una piel sana es necesario nutrirla con nutrientes importantes para el organismo a través de una alimentación diversificada y equilibrada. Muchos compuestos actúan eficazmente en la prevención del envejecimiento de la piel, con evidencia en modelos in vitro, animales y humanos. El objetivo de este estudio, por tanto, fue revisar la literatura para demostrar cómo las sustancias bioactivas presentes en la dieta influyen en el proceso de envejecimiento y su importancia en los aspectos físicos de la piel como hidratación, elasticidad, color, firmeza y arrugas.
