Causas y consecuencias de los trastornos temporomandibulares

Resumen

El término trastornos temporomandibulares (DTM) engloba varias circunstancias que afectan a la articulación temporomandibular, a los músculos masticatorios oa ambos. TMD puede ser doloroso y no doloroso. Además de causar malestar sensorial, los TTM dolorosos son emocionalmente desventajosos, provocando sentimientos como ansiedad, estrés, culpa, miseria, aislamiento e incluso dificultad para dormir, lo que puede conducir al desarrollo de depresión. Para la construcción de este trabajo se realizó un levantamiento bibliográfico en las bases de datos SciVerse Scopus, Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), U.S. Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina (PUBMED) y ScienceDirect, utilizando el gestor de referencias de Mendeley. Los TMD son un conjunto complejo de trastornos que a menudo pueden provocar dolor crónico. A medida que avanza la investigación, se desarrolla una mayor comprensión de la etiología multifactorial de los TTM dolorosos. Es probable que esto conduzca al desarrollo de mejores estrategias de prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento de TTM que se centren en los mecanismos individuales y los factores contribuyentes. Se recomienda un marco de atención biopsicosocial para el tratamiento de TMD, que abarque un enfoque multidisciplinario a través de una única vía de tratamiento integrada. La investigación sugiere que el establecimiento de centros regionales que se especializan en el dolor orofacial puede proporcionar un enfoque de gestión más racionalizado y rentable en la atención secundaria o terciaria.
