Rendimiento cognitivo de las personas mayores con pérdida auditiva

Resumen

La literatura, en los últimos años, viene demostrando que existe una relación entre la hipoacusia y el rendimiento cognitivo del adulto mayor, con el deterioro cognitivo. El presente trabajo propone analizar el desempeño cognitivo en ancianos con pérdida auditiva, usuarios y no usuarios de Audífono (HA). Participaron de esta encuesta ochenta ancianos diagnosticados con hipoacusia y problemas socioeconómicos. Este estudio fue un estudio cuantitativo, transversal y observacional. Quienes fueron sometidos a dos instrumentos de evaluación: 1) cuestionario de caracterización sociodemográfica; 2) Evaluación cognitiva de Montreal. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizó el análisis descriptivo, además de la T de Student, para la correlación de variables, la prueba del Coeficiente de Correlación de Pearson y para la comparación de las proporciones de las variables, la prueba de chi-cuadrado de Pearson. Los resultados mostraron que los ancianos con pérdida auditiva, usuarios de HA y con mayor nivel de instrucción, tuvieron mejor desempeño en la prueba cognitiva. Los resultados de la investigación ayudarán a los profesionales de la salud en la evaluación y el seguimiento cognitivo de las personas mayores con pérdida auditiva, y cómo el uso de HA contribuye a los efectos positivos sobre la cognición pueden ayudar a los profesionales sanitarios en el seguimiento de los ancianos con pérdida de audición.
