Beneficios del tratamiento ortodóntico en pacientes con periodonto reducido: Una revisión integral de la literatura

El objetivo de este trabajo es realizar una revisión de la literatura sobre los beneficios del tratamiento ortodóntico en pacientes con periodonto reducido. Por tal, la metodología empleada fue una búsqueda de artículos científicos en PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect y Cochrane desde el año 2019 hasta el 2024 con términos MeSH, DeCs y terminología abierta. Además, criterios de elegibilidad idóneos para este estudio. Así, se propició un resultado de 876, de los cuales se escogieron 18 para esta revisión, siendo en su mayoría estudios de cohorte, además de incluir análisis de elementos finitos, revisiones sistemáticas con metaanálisis, estudios transversales prospectivos, ensayo clínico aleatorizado, revisión de la literatura y un estudio longitudinal. En conclusión, el tratamiento de ortodoncia permite una ganancia de CAL y reducción de PPD. Además, la alineación dental permite una higiene de fácil acceso, propiciando alterar el curso de la enfermedad periodontal. En el caso de recesiones gingivales la literatura no explica con claridad los beneficios que puede traer la ortodoncia, tema que queda abierto para futuras investigaciones.
