Resumen

El Síndrome de Disfunción Cognitiva Canina (SDCC) es una condición neurodegenerativa progresiva que afecta a perros de edad avanzada, presentando características neuropatológicas similares a la Enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA) en humanos. El SDCC se caracteriza por cambios cerebrales como la deposición de placas de beta-amiloide, formación de ovillos neurofibrilares y pérdida neuronal, que resultan en alteraciones conductuales, incluyendo desorientación, alteraciones en el ciclo sueño-vigilia y deterioro cognitivo. El diagnóstico se basa en signos clínicos, facilitado por escalas de evaluación específicas, como la Canine Dementia Scale (CADES). Las estrategias terapéuticas abarcan tanto tratamientos farmacológicos, como el uso de selegilina y antioxidantes, así como intervenciones no farmacológicas, como el enriquecimiento ambiental y la estimulación cognitiva. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo revisar la literatura disponible sobre el SDCC, explorando aspectos etiológicos, diagnósticos y terapéuticos del síndrome. La metodología incluyó una búsqueda sistemática de artículos científicos en las bases de datos PubMed, Google Scholar y Scopus, utilizando términos relacionados con SDCC y neurodegeneración. Se revisaron estudios clínicos y comparativos con la Enfermedad de Alzheimer en humanos. Los hallazgos indican que intervenciones innovadoras, como la fotobiomodulación y las terapias con células madre, muestran potencial, pero requieren una validación adicional.
