The COVID-19 pandemic is one of humanity's most recent challenges; therefore, the objective of this study is to examine the epidemiology, transmission, and prevention measures of COVID-19. Specific objectives: To present a brief contextualization of COVID-19; to highlight the epidemiology of COVID-19; to show how transmission occurs and the prevention measures for COVID-19. Methodology: This is a qualitative bibliographic study. Results obtained: It was observed that the pandemic knew no borders, as it affected countries on all continents. Looking at the global scenario, the international community has faced unprecedented challenges, but has also shown resilience, collaboration, and innovation in the search for solutions. The development and distribution of vaccines in record time were remarkable achievements, although issues of equity in access persist. As data is updated, the full impact of the pandemic continues to be assessed. The number of cases and deaths varies widely between countries, reflecting not only the spread of the virus but also differences in health systems, response policies, and socioeconomic factors. It has been observed that COVID-19 prevention and control strategies have been essential in containing the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Person-to-person transmission, primarily through respiratory droplets, highlights the importance of measures such as hand hygiene, mask use, social distancing, and cleaning of contaminated environments.
