Aim: Critically reflect on the impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) on contemporary scientific production and propose guidelines for its ethical use, preserving academic integrity. Method: A qualitative, exploratory, and theoretical-reflective study based on a critical review of recent literature and relevant works in science, technology and society, philosophy of science, and research ethics. Results: GAI enhances productivity but may aggravate issues such as improper authorship, excessive fragmentation, and dissemination of low-rigor studies. Identified guidelines for responsible use include transparency in declaring AI use, preservation of originality, rigorous content validation, data confidentiality, and ensuring human authorship remains central. Final Considerations: Publishing with purpose and quality, rather than merely in volume, is essential for preserving science’s credibility. Ethical and supervised integration of AI can strengthen scientific output, provided that critical thinking, creativity, and researcher responsibility remain at the core.
