Adverse events related to the use of enteral tube

Objective: This study aims to characterize the profile of patients using enteral nutritional therapy, list the indications for the use of the therapy, and describe the main complications. Methods: This is an epidemiological, descriptive, and quantitative study, covering patients hospitalized with the use of an enteral tube between January 2021 and January 2023. Results: The study showed a higher prevalence of men, elderly individuals, and hospitalizations longer than seven days. Indications were decreased level of consciousness and sedation, while complications were removal of the tube by the patient and obstruction. Conclusion: The need for further research in the area is highlighted, in addition to the importance of early identification of risks to minimize complications and improve the effectiveness of ENT by nasoenteral tube.
