This article aims to present an investigation into the use of short film (or video) production as a pedagogical tool in teaching EFL, anchored in the principles of Project-Based Learning (PBL). The research proposes a lesson plan in which students take an active role in the learning process by producing a short film about a past experience, whether real or fictional, with a focus on using past verb tenses, as an end-of-semester review assignment. The study discusses how collaborative and meaningful activities can bring school content closer to students’ realities, fostering greater engagement and active participation. The results suggest that short film production promotes the development of not only linguistic skills, but also essential academic and social competences, such as creativity, teamwork, autonomy, critical thinking, and problem-solving. It concludes that the use of audiovisual projects in EFL teaching represents an effective strategy for making learning more meaningful, dynamic, and contextualized.
