Integration of pharmaceutical care into Primary Health Care for Chagas disease control

Chagas Disease (CD) is a neglected illness with significant social and economic impact, especially in the endemic areas of brazil. Despite progress in surveillance and vector control, access to diagnosis and treatment remains limited, with fewer than 10% of patients receiving adequate care. In this context, primary health care (PHC), through the family health strategy (FHC), plays a fundamental role in clinical and therapeutic follow-up of affected individuals. This study aimed to analyze, through an integrative literature review, the role of pharmacists in phc in the context of cd, highlighting the structural and institutional barriers that hinder their effective integration. The search across databases yielded 12 selected articles after applying inclusion criteria and critical analysis. The studies show a lack of publications directly addressing the pharmacist’s role in cd, highlighting the invisibility of this practice. Nevertheless, potential contributions were identified in rational drug use and integration into the multiprofessional team. It is concluded that a scientific and practical gap must be addressed through public policies and strengthening of professional training, promoting the pharmacist’s role in comprehensive care for patients with neglected tropical diseases.
