Caracterización microestructural y evaluación de la actividad antimicrobiana de nanopartículas de plata incorporadas en un cemento peruano de silicato de calcio

Resumen

Objetivo: Evaluar la composición de las fases cristalinas y la actividad antimicrobiana de un cemento Portland blanco modificado con nanopartículas de plata (WPC + NPs-Ag), en comparación con el Agregado de Trióxido Mineral Blanco (WMTA) y Biodentine®. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio experimental in vitro. La caracterización de las fases cristalinas se llevó a cabo mediante difracción de rayos X (DRX), con cuantificación por el método de refinamiento de Rietveld. La actividad antimicrobiana se evaluó mediante la técnica de difusión en agar frente a Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212 y Candida albicans ATCC 90028, a las 24 y 48 horas de incubación a 37 °C. El análisis estadístico se realizó mediante ANOVA unidireccional, seguido de la prueba post hoc de Bonferroni (p < 0,05). Resultados: El WPC + NPs-Ag presentó una composición cristalina similar a la observada en WMTA y Biodentine®, con predominio de fases de silicato de calcio y presencia de plata metálica, sin alteraciones relevantes en la matriz cementicia. Desde el punto de vista microbiológico, el material experimental mostró zonas de inhibición significativamente mayores frente a E. faecalis y C. albicans en comparación con WMTA y Biodentine® (p < 0,05). Conclusión: La incorporación de nanopartículas de plata al cemento Portland blanco potencia su actividad antimicrobiana sin modificar de manera relevante su estructura cristalina, lo que sugiere su potencial como material experimental alternativo para aplicaciones endodónticas. No obstante, se requieren estudios adicionales para confirmar su biocompatibilidad y desempeño clínico.
