El SARS-CoV-2 y la práctica dental

Resumen

El nuevo coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) es de la subfamilia Betacoronavirus, altamente patógeno y responsable de causar síndrome respiratorio agudo severo. Puede transmitirse por contacto interpersonal a través de la inhalación de gotitas contaminadas o por contacto indirecto con una superficie contaminada. El consultorio dental puede ser un lugar de posible contaminación por la propagación de aerosoles que contienen saliva / sangre, además de un contacto muy cercano con el profesional y el equipo. El período de incubación del virus puede llegar a más de seis días, y la manifestación de la enfermedad puede incluir fiebre, tos, náuseas, vómitos, diarrea, dolor de cabeza, dolores musculares, entre otros síntomas; las pruebas de laboratorio demuestran linfocitopenia, leucopenia y aumento de la proteína C reactiva. Las medidas para protegerse contra la contaminación del nuevo coronavirus son necesarias incluso en pacientes que no presentan síntomas. Durante el período de distancia social propuesto como método para prevenir la propagación del virus, el cirujano dentista debe incorporar un cuidado extra en la prevención de la propagación de la enfermedad, utilizando equipos de protección personal y limpiando los equipos y el medio ambiente de manera adecuada. El estudio consistió en realizar una revisión de la literatura sobre el cuidado dental durante el período pandémico de COVID-19. De esta forma, corresponde a todos seguir los protocolos preventivos preestablecidos, apuntar a métodos de diagnóstico más accesibles a la población en general y esperar un sistema de inmunización eficaz.
