Abstract

Introduction: Tissue bio-stimulators, such as polydioxanone threads, poly-L-lactic acid, and calcium hydroxyapatite, represent innovative active therapies for the management of surgical scars and tissue repair. Unlike passive approaches, such as conventional dressings, these compounds act biologically within the dermal microenvironment, promoting the formation of new collagen and elastin through the activation and proliferation of fibroblasts, as well as stimulating angiogenesis and extracellular matrix remodeling. This study aimed to assess the effects of using tissue bio-stimulators in the wound healing process, analyzing their efficacy in skin regeneration and their potential impact on the quality and duration of tissue repair. Methodology: This study proposes a review of scientific literature, aiming to expand knowledge on the efficacy of bio-stimulators and their role in optimizing the scar healing process in postoperative care. Results and Discussion: Tissue bio-stimulators accelerate healing by stimulating collagen synthesis, angiogenesis, and inflammatory modulation, while traditional dressings act passively, maintaining a moist and protected environment. Different bio-stimulators have varying times and intensities of action and are chosen according to the type of wound and clinical objective. The combination of dressings and bio-stimulators enhances regeneration, improves tissue quality, and reduces complications such as hypertrophic scars. Conclusion: The use of tissue bio-stimulators promotes faster healing and better-quality scars, reducing postoperative complications. Despite the benefits demonstrated, further research is needed to compare agents, optimize protocols, and combine therapeutic strategies, ensuring treatments that are safer, more effective, and capable of benefiting patients and society.
