Abstract

The aim of this article is to present an integrative systematic literature review on the modulation of the gut-brain axis based on diet in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a chronic gastrointestinal disease that has a direct relationship with the gut-brain axis, generating psychological problems. Therefore, dietary models play an important role in modulating this axis, contributing to the improvement of symptoms. From this perspective, this study is a systematic literature review, in which 14 articles from 2020 to 2025 were selected. The research found discussed different types of nutritional strategies for improving the symptoms of the syndrome, including more restrictive, traditional, and personalized diets, with similar results regarding the improvement of gastrointestinal and psychological aspects. It is concluded, therefore, that it is important to assess the patient's context in order to apply an approach that benefits them most, highlighting the role of a multidisciplinary team.
