Implementación de cuidados paliativos y su impacto en el Accidente Cerebrovascular Agudo: Revisión de la literatura

Resumen

El Accidente Cerebrovascular (ACV) es una de las principales causas de mortalidad y discapacidad a nivel mundial. Este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar el impacto de la implementación temprana de los cuidados paliativos en la calidad de vida y la toma de decisiones en pacientes con ACV agudo. La metodología utilizada fue una revisión integradora de la literatura, con búsquedas en las bases de datos PubMed y BVS (LILACS), seleccionando 22 artículos publicados entre 2006 y 2025. Los resultados demuestran que, si bien los cuidados paliativos mejoran significativamente el control de síntomas como el dolor y la disnea (aumentando hasta 31 veces el uso de opioides cuando es necesario) y reducen la ansiedad familiar, su implementación sigue siendo tardía e infrautilizada. Las barreras culturales y las fallas en la comunicación pronóstica conducen a intervenciones fútiles y al sufrimiento no tratado. Se concluye que la integración temprana del enfoque paliativo, coexistiendo con el tratamiento curativo, es esencial para alinear las conductas médicas con los valores del paciente, optimizando el confort y la satisfacción familiar sin anticipar el fallecimiento.
