Nursing professionals' knowledge about pressure injuries in Intensive Care Units

Objective: To analyze the knowledge of nursing professionals about the assessment, classification and prevention of pressure injuries in an adult Intensive Care Unit of a philanthropic hospital in the Vale do Itajaí region. Methodology: This is a descriptive and exploratory study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with nursing professionals from an adult ICU. For data collection, the Caliri-Pieper Pressure Injury Knowledge Test (TCLP Caliri-Pieper) was used, a validated instrument to assess theoretical knowledge on the topic. Results: Participants achieved correct answers of 84.1% and 72.7% on questions related to the assessment of pressure injuries. Regarding the classification of these injuries, the correct answers varied between 36.4% and 97.7%. Knowledge about prevention showed a significant discrepancy, ranging from 4.5% to 100.0%. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that the professionals evaluated have a satisfactory level of knowledge about the evaluation and classification of pressure injuries. However, the wide variation in knowledge about prevention indicates the need for continuous training to improve care practice and ensure more effective strategies for preventing these injuries in the adult ICU.
