The objective of this study was to analyze the effectiveness and safety of the procedures adopted by the hospital Dentistry team in the treatment of mucositis and leukoplakia, in order to verify if they are aligned with evidence-based practices for managing these conditions. The methodology of this literature review article is based on content analysis, following a qualitative approach. The material selection was carried out through an integrative search in the electronic databases SCOPUS®, MEDLINE®, and PUBMED®, using the predefined keywords. The inclusion criteria encompassed studies published in Portuguese and English that present results of original research, systematic reviews, case studies, or reports of oral care protocols in patients with mucositis or leukoplakia. The exclusion criteria were established to exclude works that did not fit the defined research parameters, such as studies published before 2010, articles that are not available in full text, research that does not specifically focus on personalized oral care for patients with mucositis and leukoplakia, or that are not linked to hospital Dentistry practice. 10 articles were selected for the study and as a conclusion, there was observed a variability in clinical practices, however, these were based on scientific evidence. The therapeutic approaches demonstrated the effectiveness and safety of the protocols adopted by the dental team in the treatment of mucositis and leukoplakia, resulting in improvements in the quality of life of the patients.
