Efeitos do ômega-3 na depressão: Uma revisão sistemática

Resumo

Objetivo: avaliar esses efeitos do ômega-3 e encontrar um consenso na literatura sobre a dose/efetividade Métodos: revisão sistemática, com buscas nas bases de dados e biblioteca virtual: Google Acadêmico, LILACS, MEDLINE/PubMed, Web of Science e SciElo, utilizando os termos "ômega-3", "estresse", e "estresse oxidativo". Realizada entre janeiro e março de 2024. Foram incluídos estudos que respondiam à pergunta norteadora "O ômega-3 melhora a depressão?". Os critérios de inclusão foram estudos caso-controle em humanos realizados nos últimos 5 anos. Resultados: o ômega-3 melhora a depressão e seus sintomas. Observou-se que as doses de EPA e DHA variaram entre os estudos, mas efeitos benéficos foram observados mesmo com doses baixas. A maioria dos estudos utilizou questionários padronizados para medir o grau de depressão e biomarcadores específicos para inflamação. Conclusão: com ômega-3 pode ser benéfica para a prevenção e tratamento da depressão juvenil, senil, pré e pós-parto, relacionando-a intimamente com a inflamação.  Estudos futuros devem focar em padronizar as dosagens de EPA e DHA e considerar os efeitos de combinações de suplementos. A suplementação com ômega-3 deve ser considerada como uma intervenção necessária para reduzir os sintomas e a ocorrência da depressão.
