The objective of this study is to understand the strategies for patient-centered care in hospital services. A qualitative study using the Convergent Care Research methodological approach was conducted in a clinical-surgical hospitalization unit in a public and university hospital. 17 interviews were carried out with patients and care professionals, from November 2021 to May 2022. Data analysis followed the stages of apprehension, synthesis, theorization and transfer. The strategies listed emphasize the importance of trust between the patient and professional, as well as the multidisciplinary team's role in encouraging this process, the reduction of errors in the care process, and the identification of favorable moments to promote involvement. As organizational strategies, the characteristics of the university hospital, institutional training, and health systems that work with the perspective of avoiding adverse events and counter-referral with primary care were highlighted, which can strengthen patient-centered care. The strategies made it possible to create a folder about the topic studied, on the premise of raising awareness among the actors involved, promoting changes in care practice.
