Alcoholic drink consumption in university students

Alcohol abuse among young people is becoming a public health priority due to its serious educational and health consequences. This research aimed to estimate and analyze the pattern of alcohol consumption among university students from public and private higher education institutions. We conducted a quantitative cross-sectional descriptive research with a sample of 1,000 university students, from public and private higher education institutions. The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) was used to identify alcohol consumption. The results pointed a significant association (p <0.05) of academics who consume alcoholic beverages in a public institution. Single, without religion or catholic, spiritists and others, who smoke and have a family member who consumes alcohol was exposure factors to risky consumption. There was a significant association between the classification of alcohol use and gender. It is noteworthy that the majority of women have levels of alcohol consumption between 0-7 and 20-40 and the majority of men at the level of 8-15 and 16-19. It is concluded that the consumption of alcoholic beverages among academics reached high rates. The data found will be used for public policies aimed at preventive strategies during the training of academics.
