Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia. Type 2 diabetes arises when the body does not adequately produce insulin. The objective of the research was to evaluate the maintenance of glycemic levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, correlating these levels with their lifestyle habits. A descriptive, exploratory research was used, using a qualitative-quantitative approach, through the interviews using patient data collection. The study was conducted in a municipal public pharmacy located in the interior of Bahia. The population consisted of 17 patients, male and female. The results based on the orientations made for feeding were not effective. In relation to physical activity, part of the interviewees did not practice any kind of exercise. Among the interferences that hindered adherence were discipline and time, emotional and financial problems. The study identified that 29.41% had a worsening in glycemic control. It was observed that 29.41% of the patients had no change in glycemic control. Of the 17 respondents 41.18% showed improvement in glycemic control. We conclude that despite the contributions some patients still remained unchanged in blood glucose. Others showed improvement. This result may be related to the reports of more discipline, organization of time giving priority to health, or even to those who put into practice at least one of the recommended guidelines. We conclude that diabetes requires changes and new attitudes from both patients and their families in order to prevent further complications.
