The study aims to increase knowledge about drug use during pregnancy. This is an integrative literature review on the most recent productions on the subject, with emphasis on publications between the years 2015 and 2020. It was found, through the results of the analyzed publications, that both legal and illegal drugs can present problems to the mother-child binomial during the pregnancy period, as they are substances that affect the functioning of the organism. Bearing in mind that the fetus absorbs substances ingested by the mother through the bloodstream, or even from the amniotic fluid, as most drugs are capable of crossing the placental barrier, coming into direct contact with the developing baby. It is concluded that prenatal consultations are essential in identifying the use of substances that are harmful to the health of pregnant women and the developing fetus. And that it is necessary to think about strategies aimed at the qualification of health professionals who work in these services, so that strategies are sought to overcome the conditions and factors that led to the consumption of these substances, without interfering with the full autonomy of pregnant women who seek the services offered by the public health network. as well as expanding studies and educational campaigns on drug use, working to raise awareness about the harm and consequences that these substances can cause in the body, especially during pregnancy.
