The objective is to map strategies for the safe administration of medications by nursing professionals in the hospital setting. This is a scope review conducted according to the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). A scope review protocol was built. Publications of white and gray literature were analyzed. Rayyan software was used to manage the collection and selection of studies. The analysis was performed using simple descriptive statistics. The final sample included 97 studies. We identified a predominance of studies published in the last decade, with emphasis on larger publications in Brazil and the largest number of authors graduated in Nursing. Regarding the strategies used for the safe administration of drugs, 81 (83.51%) "Strategy to Evaluate", 15 (15.46%) "Strategies to Promote" and one research used both "Strategies to Promote and Evaluate" (1.03%) the safe administration of drugs. To promote the safe administration of medications, the following strategies were used: questionnaires, discussion on the subject, direct and indirect observation, checklist, local photography, forms and interviews, recording of medication errors, characterization of recorded incidents, nominal group technique and structuring of scenarios for simulation of adverse events.
