Energy is a matter of strategic importance to countries around the world. The world economy is strongly linked to the oil industry as a source of energy production. However, ambitious initiatives have already been launched in order to take the world away from its preponderant dependence on oil. Such initiatives are motivated by several factors: population growth and environmental impacts are the most influential. The present work aims to approach, in the form of an overview, a situational portrait of the issues involved with the issue of climate change and energy transition. As a result, it appears that there are concerns and attempts to mitigate or even cancel the effects on the global climate due to industrial activities. Brazil, not being exempt from these problems, already shows itself with a posture of political alignment and adjustment of conducts in order to meet global goals of reduction of environmental impacts, mainly reduction of the emission of greenhouse gases.
