Association of domestic violence and nutritional status in the elderly: a systematic review

The aim of this systematic review was to identify the association of domestic violence and nutritional status in the elderly. Six databases were searched, no language or publication period restrictions were made. Two independent reviewers conducted the selection, data extraction and methodological quality analysis. In case of doubts or disagreements, the selection was made with the help of a third reviewer. Five of the 401 studies identified were included. All studies were considered adequate in all criteria assessed for methodological quality. Suffering domestic violence, whether by family members / caregivers or intimate partners has been positively associated with obesity throughout life, regardless of nature - physical, psychological and sexual - or point in time when it occurred.
