Osteopathy is a peculiar clinical style that can be defined as a person-centered health care system. Low back pain is defined by a pain or muscle exhaustion located in the lower back and can affect up to 80% of the world's population. Low back pain can be considered a public health problem because it is the main cause of absence from work. We aimed to identify the therapeutic effects of osteopathy in the management of chronic low back pain. An integrative review was conducted to compose a sample of studies. The searches were conducted in the PubMed and Cochrane Library databases with the descriptors in DeCS and MeSH: "Population" "Osteopathy", "Osteopathic Manipulation", "Manipulation, Osteopathic", "Low Back Pain" which were organized in the search fields of the databases with Boolean operators (AND, OR and NOT). After searching the databases, an initial 44,719 articles were found, the eligibility phase included 47 articles, 8 searches were included in the final synthesis. There is substantial evidence to support the use of osteopathy in patients with chronic low back pain. Osteopathy was found to have therapeutic effects and can alleviate low back pain, as well as minimize disability and increase mobility. Osteopathy does not seem to be effective in relatively young patients with mild to moderate low back pain, but overall, a positive prognosis with improved quality of life is expected.
