Abstract

Introduction: This is a literature review about the prevalence of the location of impacted central incisors in orthodontics. Impacted teeth are those that do not erupt into the oral cavity due to a barrier. Several factors, both local and general, are decisive for the process of non-eruption of teeth. In adults and adolescents, the teeth that suffer the most impact are the third molars and in children, the upper canines. Objective: The objective of this work is to carry out a literature review in databases, using articles with the descriptors on the subject as references, in order to demonstrate the diagnosis and treatment of impacted teeth. Methodology: A literature search was carried out using the search strategy: (((Incisor) AND (Tooth, Impacted)) AND (Computed Tomography)), in the Lilacs, Medline, Pubmed and Meridian Allen Press databases. The articles found in full, underwent a systematic evaluation. Conclusion: Cone-beam computed tomography accurately demonstrates the location of the impacted central incisor, as well as the affected adjacent structures and incidental findings, highlighting the degree of resorption of central and lateral incisors, thus being superior to radiographic examinations.
