Nursing care for the elderly with Alzheimer’s: an integrative review

Nursing experiences daily in its professional practice the reality of elderly people living with Alzheimer's. Therefore, in view of this scenario, the capacities and quality of care must be encouraged, discussed and prioritized. This study aims to highlight nursing care for elderly people with Alzheimer's in health institutions, through current literature. This is a descriptive study, of the integrative literature review type, which took place through the following phases: identification of the theme following the guiding question; organization of criteria for inclusion and exclusion of studies for sampling and/or literature search; data collection for study; choice, evaluation and critical view of the selected studies. Five articles were included, three (3) in LILACS and two (2) in PUBMED. The analysis took place through Laurenci Bardin's Content method in its three phases. Nursing care was varied, the main care of daily life being: help with food and hygiene, development of activities that stimulate the memory of the elderly, care to prevent the risk of falls and favoring the environment aimed at preserving the quality of life of the elderly person. Finally, programs based on videos and hospital action plans that help in this long process of care, with the use of technologies, were evidenced. It is suggested the expansion of investment in the area for the qualification of nursing professionals, mainly with Permanent and Continuing Education.
