Snakebites represent a serious public health problem worldwide, as they directly impact treatment and rehabilitation costs for patients who are victims of snakebite envenomation. The most frequent cases occur in tropical countries, such as Brazil, and their number may be underestimated in places with less access to health services. Given the relevance of the subject, the aim of this study is to provide a broad view of the epidemiology of snakebites in the state of Sergipe, exploring relevant factors for the incidence of cases. A literature review study was carried out in the databases indexed in the VHL, Pubmed, Scielo and UpToDate platforms, where 16 articles were definitively selected. It was analyzed that the incidence of snakebite cases in Sergipe remains constant, with little variation between the analyzed years. Among the associated risk factors, male gender, working age group and delay in medical care stand out. The use of serum therapy in necessary cases proves to be effective and modify the clinical outcome.
