Adverse events associated with excessive use of vitamin D a systematic review

Introducción: La vitamina D es una hormona esteroide cuya función principal es la regulación del metabolismo óseo. El exceso de vitamina D es capaz de causar toxicidad al organismo, provocando hipercalcemia, hipercalciuria, hiperfosfatemia y dando como resultado debilidad, calcificaciones de tejidos blandos, entre otros. Objetivo: Destacar los efectos asociados al uso excesivo de vitamina D. Metodología Se trata de un estudio de revisión sistemática Resultados: Se seleccionaron 12 artículos para componer la revisión y responder a los objetivos establecidos en este trabajo. Los principales motivos que llevan al uso no guiado y/o excesivo de vitamina D son los errores de prescripción, la automedicación por fácil acceso y los errores en el manejo de las fórmulas que contienen vitamina D. Los hallazgos indican que los principales eventos adversos causados por la Hipervitaminosis D son mareos, dolor abdominal, debilidad mediada principalmente por hipercalcemia e hipercalciuria. Los hallazgos indican que algunos eventos adversos pueden ser graves y causar convulsiones, problemas cardiovasculares y daño renal. Conclusión: La intoxicación por vitamina D es causada por múltiples factores como la automedicación, errores de prescripción y errores en el manejo de fórmulas que contienen vitamina D. Los eventos adversos son muy variados y pueden incluir dolor abdominal, náuseas, fatiga, poliuria, cólico renal y cálculos mediados por hipercalcemia e hipercalciuria, que pueden causar serios problemas para la salud de la comunidad.
