The relationship between obesity and infertility: A literature review

Abstract

Introduction: The relationship between obesity and infertility has been widely studied. Research shows that obesity can reduce fertility and increase the incidence of pregnancy complications, such as gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, premature birth and fetal growth restriction. Objective: To review the current literature on the influence of obesity on fertility, including the possible causes of obesity-related infertility and the effects of obesity on the success of infertility treatments. Methodology: An integrative and descriptive qualitative review is carried out. Results and Discussion: Obesity is a health condition that affects a large portion of the world's population, and is associated with several comorbidities, such as female infertility. The influence of obesity on female infertility is a subject that has been widely discussed in the scientific literature. Final thoughts: In conclusion, obesity is a risk factor for infertility and may negatively affect the success of fertility treatments. Weight loss and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle are essential for the treatment of infertility associated with obesity, but a multidisciplinary and individualized approach is essential for successful treatment. More research is needed to improve understanding of the mechanisms underlying the relationship between obesity and infertility, and to develop more effective strategies for treating this condition.

Possui graduação em Medicina pela Faculdade de Medicina de Itajubá (1995). Residência em ginecologia e obstetrícia na PUCCAMP ( 1996 a 1998). De 2003 a 2009 foi colaborador do departamento de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo no qual atuou como professor para o quarto ano do curso de medicina na disciplina de obstetrícia. Mestrado em obstetrícia pela Faculdade de medicina da universidade de São Paulo - FMUSP( 2003). Doutorado em obstetrícia pela Faculdade de medicina da universidade de São Paulo - FMUSP. (2009). Titulo de especialista em GO pela FEBRASGO. Titulo de especialista em ultrassonografia em ginecologia e obstetrícia pelo CBR/AMB/FEBRASGO. Titulo de especialista em ultrassonografia geral pela AMB / colegio brasileiro de Radiologia e diagnóstico por imagem. Titulo de especialista em medicina fetal pela FEBRASGO/AMB. Tem experiência na área de Medicina, com ênfase em ginecologia e obstetrícia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Ultrassonografia geral, ultrassonografia em GO e Medicina fetal, com ênfase em Defeitos da Face e Defeitos do Tubo Neural. MBA em Gestão de organizações Hospitalares e Sistemas de Saúde pela Fundação Getúlio Vargas - FGV (2009). Ex- professor substituto no departamento de obstetrícia da UFMG em 2011/2012. Ex- professor de ginecologia e obstetrícia da Faculdade da Saúde e Ecologia Humana, FASEH, Vespasiano, MG ( 2014). Médico responsável pela clínica ULTRAMAX - BH- MG. Atualmente professor do departamento de ginecologia e obstetrícia da Faculdade de Medicina de Itajubá ( 2014 - atual) e chefe do setor de medicina fetal do hospital das clinicas de Itajubá ( MG ). Representante regional da SOGIMIG na cidade de Itajubá-MG.
