Outcomes after surgical correction and morbidity of patients with Gastroschisis and Omphalocele in Brazil, and the importance of the role of the multidisciplinary team: An integrative review

Introduction: Congenital abdominal wall defects, gastroschisis and omphalocele, are herniations of the viscera and their exposure to the outside world. In all cases, from the moment they are diagnosed, surgical repair is always necessary, after the team has prepared itself by classifying the defects in terms of complexity and size. In this way, the type of procedure can be determined, mitigating any risks that may arise. Put with all the precautions, some complications are inevitable, as demonstrated in the following research, which emphasizes the need for active and assiduous care with a multidisciplinary team. Objectives: The aim of this study was to carry out an integrative review on the prognosis and morbidity after surgical correction of patients with Gastroschisis and Omphalocele. Methodology: The research was based on the PICO strategy and data was collected in November 2023. The descriptors used were "Omphalocele Surgical Treatment", "Gastroschisis Surgical Treatment", "Gastroschisis and Omphalocele". The inclusion criteria included publications in any language and in the last ten years. Results: 877 results were obtained from the Google Scholar, Virtual Health Library and PubMed databases. After a thorough analysis, articles that did not meet the eligibility criteria were excluded, leaving 11 studies to be detailed. Conclusion: In light of the above, the main morbidities and outcomes following surgical correction in patients with gastroschisis and omphalocele were detailed, reaffirming the importance of the multidisciplinary team in monitoring affected newborns.
