Relación entre disfunción sexual y calidad de vida en pacientes con Diabetes Mellitus

Resumen

En los últimos años, además de los obstáculos ya característicos derivados de la Diabetes Mellitus, se ha asociado a esta enfermedad un nuevo problema: la disfunción sexual. Por lo tanto, este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar la prevalencia y los efectos de la disfunción sexual en adultos diagnosticados con Diabetes Mellitus. Para ello, se realizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos PubMed/MEDLINE, SCOPUS y EMBASE. Con base en la definición de los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, se seleccionaron 32 resultados de los 415 artículos encontrados para componer la colección de esta revisión, que retratan la fisiopatología, prevalencia e impactos de esta enfermedad en la calidad de vida de los pacientes. La Diabetes Mellitus es responsable de la disfunción sexual debido a las complicaciones microvasculares que ocasiona. Además, el tratamiento de este problema de salud se dificulta por el estigma que conlleva buscar tratamiento para trastornos sexuales, lo que lleva a descuidar la búsqueda de ayuda. Por tanto, es evidente que se deben adoptar enfoques multidisciplinarios e intersectoriales, como la desestigmatización de esta cuestión en el entorno social y las medidas de atención preventiva a los pacientes diabéticos, así como la detección temprana de estos pacientes con trastornos sexuales.
