Abstract

Introduction: Excessive sun exposure leads to numerous skin problems that result in damage that makes the skin more susceptible to various external aggressions. This favors the appearance of skin lesions that can compromise the exercise of the profession and the health of workers from different categories who work outdoors. Objective: Systematize and analyze the knowledge available from studies on the impacts of sun exposure on the skin of workers outdoors. Method: Integrative review, carried out with selected studies available in databases (MEDLINE, PubMed, LILACS and SciELO), over a period of 10 years, and in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Results: The articles cover different categories of outdoor workers, in 8 countries, with a predominance of European articles (54%) and with non-melanoma skin cancer, actinic keratosis and actinic cheilitis as the most addressed lesions. Conclusion: There was an association between occupational sun exposure and the development of malignant and pre-malignant skin lesions. The importance of notifying these injuries to public health authorities is highlighted so that sun exposure can be seen as a real occupational risk.
