Clinical manifestations related to the nervous system resulting from COVID-19: an integrative review

Objetivo: analizar los principales trastornos neurológicos derivados de la infección por el virus SARS-CoV-2 (síndrome respiratorio agudo severo coronavirus 2) a través de una revisión integradora. Metodología: se trata de un estudio integrador de revisión bibliográfica. Para la selección de artículos se utilizaron dos bases de datos: PUBMED y Scielo, y se establecieron los siguientes criterios de inclusión: estudios de reporte de caso y estudios clínicos, realizados en seres humanos, disponibles en inglés, español y portugués, atribuyéndole el corte de tiempo de 1 año (2020-2021). La muestra final utilizada en esta revisión consistió en 36 artículos. Resultados y discusión: aunque el objetivo principal es el sistema respiratorio humano, el coronavirus tiene potencial neurotrópico y neuroinvasivo, teniendo la capacidad de llegar al sistema nervioso central (SNC). Así, los estudios han demostrado asociaciones entre la infección por SARS-Cov-2 y la aparición de dolor de cabeza, encefalopatía, enfermedad cerebrovascular, hemorragia cerebral, encefalomielitis, alteración de la conciencia y delirio, convulsiones tónico-clónicas, alteración del olfato y del gusto, síndrome de Guillain-Barré, rabdomiólisis, enfermedad de Parkinson, Alzheimer y esclerosis múltiple. Conclusión: de la revisión bibliográfica actual se infiere que los índices de afectación neurológica en los casos de COVID-19 son significativos y exigen el desarrollo de más estudios sobre el tema.
