Social resourcefulness, parental regulation and physical activity in adolescents: a cohort study

Abstract

To analyze the association between social resourcefulness, parental regulation and physical activity in adolescents. A cross-sectional study carried out with 722 adolescents from public schools in Foz do Iguaçu. Data were collected by questionnaires. The association of social resourcefulness with parental regulation and physical activity was analyzed in the general group and stratified by gender. Pearson’s chi-square and Binomial Logistic Regression tests were used. For girls, the relationship between the decrease in social resourcefulness occurred for the feeling of loneliness. For boys, there was a relationship between decreased physical activity and decreased social resourcefulness. There was an association between social resourcefulness, parental regulation and physical activity in adolescents. As a conclusion of the study confirms the impact of physical activity and parental regulation on the social resourcefulness of adolescents and the importance for the design of strategies in the development of programs and policies in education and public health.
