The meanings attributed by women to the work of obstetric nurses in planned home birth

Introduction: Considering the increasing number of pregnant women and their families in search to experience home childbirth, this article has an objective to comprehend the meanings assigned to women for a planned home childbirth with the supervision of nurse midwives. Methodology: This is an exploratory study, descriptive, and a qualitative approach, with an approach of 4 women that experienced planned a humanizing delivery with nurse midwives in the center-sul region of Mato Grosso, Brasil. The data collected were by semi-structure interviews, analyzing the thematic type content. Results: By analyzing the data, two categories were emerged: a) the acting of nurse midwives in planned home childbirth and b) the experience of home childbirth: the ambience and respect in the women’s individuality. Final considerations: The senses checked by women about home childbirth with the assistance of obstetrician nurses were given positive sentiments, denoting confidence and respect of autonomy and the individuality of the women and family.
